Awareness  Campaign Posters

2021

South Asians have been long oppressed by the stereotypes created around their tradition, practices, symbols, objects, food, language, etc. On the surface, cultural appropriation seems like a path to a more globalized world however, when it becomes personal it feels like a loss of identity and demising one’s significance. While people from the dominant group can get away with putting a bindi, we are left to stand up to the stigmas. This project aims to give a voice to South Asian culture and talk about the actual significance of the most appropriated symbols and objects.

Bindi, Mehndi, and Om are appropriated to a point where many don’t even know their origin and significance. The awareness campaign consists of three heavy posters. The copy is the main focus of the designs as it aims to be bold, impactful, and gives you something to think about.
